The idea is that ww2 / s2 does not use servlets anymore, but filetered dispatchers. So forward uis useless in certain contexts ( AFAIR, it starts with servlet 2.4 that forwarded requests acould be processed by filters ) as such the idea of hijacking request is universal, and not bound to struts or ww.
