Yep it can. There is:
com.opensymphony.webwork.pico.PicoObjectFactoryFilter
which has to be applied before ActionContextCleanup.
I patched it and it shall be in good shape for WW
2.2.5

For S2 though we need better concept - like pico
plugin.  It is on my short range radar when I start to
implement with s2.
