JMX itself has nothing to do with remoting. But there
are
some adapters for SNMP / HTTP / Whatever. 

JBoss uses JMX not only for exposing mbeans for
management, but also as kind of dependency resolution
/ injection - in the Öberg-era there was noting
better.
