I've been converting tests to JUnit 4/JMock 2.
But I've been doing in steps making use of the fact that JUnit 3 and 4 
can coexist.  I've been taking care not to break the build - of pico 
components, that is.  If AbstractPicoContainerTestCase is also used else 
where, then it is possible that it will break build.

We should then create new abstract test classes eg dropping the Case 
suffix and deprecate the original ones but keep the extension of 
MockObjectTestCase.

works fine on my end.

Which build is broken for you?
