I'm mildly uneasy about IDE configs in a source repo because they can change at arbitrary times in arbitrary ways unrelated to the source changes being committed, and they feel more like a personal development environment setting than a source code config file. But I'm also excited that you're gearing up to commit something, so I don't want to discourage you. :) By the way, I think Maven has a command to generate Eclipse files from the Maven config files, but I don't remember how good it is.
