It wouldn't be too hard to implement in Prevayler.
Runtime.freeMemory() tells you how much memory is left. It has enough
time to predict what to put on disk when full (the
least-recently/never-used thing). With the new solid-state drives
(including RAM based), the performance penalty may not even be very
high.

I agree it's only for special terabyte-to-exabyte+ sized apps, where
Prevayler could easily outperform all other solutions even for those.

Maybe I also secretly want to kill all other databases.
