Nice work!
I've had a go at something similar myself, using the core.async library.
However, I think that over complicates things and I could have just put the
async stuff in another layer.  So I kind of prefer your approach.  Although
I would also probably prefer to use the standard Clojure datatypes with a
serializer like fressian nippy, over Java object serialization.
