As for the layout, I'm with Johannes and Killi.

And probably this issue should be discussed on the users list as well? I
think it's not only a developers decision to change the layout. Some users
might have set up some tools or whtever else that expects the history to
appear in the well known format. Changing the layout would screw up things
here.
Woudl it be possible to set up a vote for the change that involves the
users as well?
