Sure, I don't doubt that the decision is up to the comitters, no need to
apologize.

I just wanted to point out that if only the user base is broad enough it
could probably be wise to ask about the users opinion regarding some major
layout changes. And as the name implies users may well be found on the
users list?

Btw, off topic as this already is: Has anybody a clue on how broad the
user base already is? Is there any rule of thumb to estimate the number of
regular users from, lets say, the number of downloads?

And to come back to the topic: Yes, as a user I appreciate the new layout.
