Problems installing Scarab

To Whom It May Concern:

 

            My name is Marcus Walker and am I attempting to set up an
instance of scarab for my company as a possible tracking solution.  I am
running into some problems with the installation:

 

The problem that I am having relates to the step involving creation of the
database.  I am using Ant and when attempting to build it (step 4.2 in your
instructions) there is no problem, it indicates that the build was
successful.  

 

When going to the next step 5a, I run the command ant create-db which is
where I have my problem:

 

I have not made any special changes to the build.properties file (it is
simply the minimal properties file with the exception of specifying the
listener on port 8080).  After running the command it appears that half of
the build file involved with that command runs just fine until it gets to
this portion:

 

Create-empty-db:

 

            [echo]

            [echo]              Create empty database:

            [echo]              driver  : [org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver]

            [echo]              url       : [jdbc:mysql://localhost:8080/?]

            [echo]              userid : [root]

            [echo]              password: []

 

It then comes up with this message

 

BUILD FAILED

C:\SCARAB_HOME\build\build.xml:441: The following error occurred while
executing this line:

C:\SCARAB_HOME\target\scarab\WEB-INF\conf\build.xml:345:
com.mysql.jdbc.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure due to
underlying exception:

 

 

It then goes into some kind of something that says

 

**BEGIN NESTED EXCEPTION**

 

then eventually ends.

 

 

I am using mysql and the scarab directory is located at C:\SCARAB_HOME.  I
have also made sure that I set all of the environment variable as you have
indicated in the installation instructions.  I appreciate any help that  you
have can give me.  I have been trying to install this product for a while and
I am just not getting something right.  This is for evaluation purposes so
security settings/passwords are not of any importance.  Thank you.
