Successful login not forwarding correctly.

 Thanks for the CSS tip. It works fine now. 
 
I am noticing one thing however that makes me unsure if I am implementing the filter correctly.
Sometimes after a successful login the resulting page that displays is just a page with one of my images. I can however just type in the correct path and be granted access to any page.
For instance, if I try to http://localhost/myapp/index.jsp I get redirected to the login page. Once I login in it usually goes to the index.jsp. However, if I try to go to http://localhost/myapp/ I get redirected to the login page but a successfull login does not then direct me to the index.jsp page. It just displays an image in a blank page.
I am sure this is user error but am not sure what indicate the forwarding page after a successful login? I know the <form-default-page> is the page that will forwarded if a user bookmarks and then comes back to the pag after a successful login.
 What element points it to the start up page on a first time login. Is it <form-default-page> or is it the web.xml <welcome-file> element?
At this time both of these elements point to the same page in my app so I am not sure what the problem is?
