Remember Me problems with Safari and IE 7

Remember Me does not work for Safari 3.1.2, but does work for Firefox  
3.0.3, both on OS X.

When I login to my site with Safari, close my browser, and then open  
it I have the following cookies:

name			expires				value
validation		Oct 1, 2008 11:11am	298724298sadf....
rememberme	Oct 1, 2008 11:11am	true

When I do the same with Firefox I have both of the cookies above, but  
also username and password cookies.

Is there any reason why Safari is not hanging onto the username and  
password cookies and Firefox is?

It also appears that Remember Me is not working for IE 7.  Is there  
some similarity between how IE 7 and Safari handle cookies?  And is  
there anything I can do to get those browsers to work properly?
