Your test case looks perfectly valid; i.e. it should work.

I suspect that the error gets stuck in the repl continuation, so any 
continuation starting from the repl afterwards will contain the 
unserializable object contained in the error.

The code in repl.scm looks ok on cursory inspection, so this may be a 
problem in the Java error handling code, or a frame/vlr recycling 
problem (just like last time).

I've tried the same code in a local context that is catching the error, 
and it works there.
