I am no expert in language implementation but for what it is worth:
Java object model is a subset of the CLOS object model. SISC
primitive types can be implemented using the java object model and a
CPL for the classes can be generated. We can define before and after
qualifiers to do the conversion. Then using sorting of the applicable
methods:
http://www.lisp.org/HyperSpec/Body/sec_7-6-6-1-2.html
an effective method can be generated and invoked. When more than one
representation can be used (ambiguity) we just choose one of the
representations (consistent) for implementation.
Excuse me if all this is too vague but I have never implemented a
language and can only talk as a user of the system. As a user I just
was SISC to be a more natural extension to Java libraries like
http://www.jython.org/docs/properties.html
thx. -rajeev

Narang,
Please carefully read
http://sisc.sourceforge.net/manual-beta/ch08.html#JavaConversions
and explain how you think we should be addressing each one of the five
problems with automatic conversion listed there.
