Converting symbols to procedures?

Hi, I want to write some function dispatching code that involves somehow converting strings to procedure references. I know about string->symbol but I don't see a way of converting symbols to procedure references. For comparison, PLT Scheme has a function called namespace-variable-value that does what I want there.
