I'll try to investigate this today, but regarding the load issue; one known
deficiency in SISC, in particular with the syntax expander, is that the
syntax environments aren't totally isolated from the main environments in
certain cases.  Its a bug we can only realistically fix by switching
expanders.  As for the write issue, it is indeed a strange one.
