Hi Julio,

For example we have been using SF to deploy VM on a number of machines.
And as our components keeps on growing, and we keep on adding new
features, there is need to have graphical user interface for the
management of these features.

What do you have in mind here?

But my main question is if one wants to integrate the existing
management console in the eclipse, how to proceed?

The management console is a very simple swing component. It does not do
anything special but its code shows how to connect to a daemon, navigate
through the graph of components and so on. Therefero it could be the
foundation or example to write a graphical application.

To integrate with Eclipse you would have several options:

- The SmartFrog plug-in for Eclipse adds a button to start the
management console and some extra capabilities to Eclipse. (chech the
downloads section)

- If you want something more advanced and better integration you
would need to write a plugin using SWT that would use the same methods
and techniques used by the management console. Also, I think there was a
way of integrating swing frames in eclipse and in that case you could
directly integrate the console into it but I have not tried this.

For management you could also use the new REST components that we
released two weeks ago in cvs but they still need to get some proper
html fronting. Another option is the JMX framework but I still need to
complete (long time due) port to the latest version of MX4J, but most of
the code is in CVS.

If you are planning or interested in writing a graphical tool for
SmartFrog I could help you. In the mean time what I will probably do is
to add multi node support to the management console when I get some
spare time.

Could you explain this a little bit more?

Thx,

Hi,

I was just wondering if some one tried to integrate SF Management
Console into Eclipse. That should allow users to add complementry GUI
functionality for their SF components.

Omer
