Are you sure it was the svn plugin or the svn itself.
SVN comes with 2 backend repositories - one based on BDB (Berkley DB)
and one file-based (they call it FSFS).
DBD has been known to have file corruptions, and that's why FSFS
is now the default from SVN 1.2

I still tend to use it with Eclipse and I've not had any real problems 
now for months (of course it's still to same level of CVS, but I would
certainly say it's production ready).

I can't really comment on IDEA but I know of many people who use it.

It's a question of how much one considers the advantages of svn over 
cvs, and weighting this against a plugin which is still not perfect.
