Accessing properties in JSP without declaring getter method

Hi,
I have a class where I defined few string variables. 
My question is Is there anyway to access these in a JSP thru Expression
Language with out declaring a getter method. I can define these variables as
public. Does Spring provides any way access in the JSP with out declaring  a
getter.
