I know this might not be the right place (is there a dev list?) We gave up on coolmenu for configuration problems. We're implemmenting a Nice menu (it is cool as well) from dynamic drive, it is possible to use it under GPL. So we're already testing it under cool menus, we added a new Displayer for it.
