How to customize Dropdown menu?

Hi,

I would like to use dropdown menu with a different background image on
every menu item. I tried to modify the css stylesheet menuDropdonw.css
and nothing happened, even reloading the page. Then I investigate to use
a propertie file AppDisplayerStrings.properties like the one in the demo
http://demo.raibledesigns.com/struts-menu/menutest2.jsp and the
attributes are quite obscure: I couldn't figure out where to find
documentation about it.

If somebody faced the same problem before, know how to solve it without
to use Velocity or know a good place where to find documentation, please
let me know.
