For those who are curious, here is what I submitted for creating the jini
community on java.net.

Gregg Wonderly
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Proposal for Jini Community Area on Java.net
--------------------------------------------

1. Community Name
    --------------
The Jini Community

2. Community Charter (Detailed community charter that should
be unique to all existing java.net communities)
    ---------------------------------------------------------
The Jini community is already a thriving community of technologist
and users who need a place to continue collaboration for
development of these technologies and solutions using the Jini
platform. This new community would take up the task, on java.net,
of providing support to developers interested in the use of the Jini
platform, as well as those interested in RMI and the more advanced
features of the JERI stack (basically RMI 2.0) available in the Jini
platform.

There is a plan to propose "Jini" as a project to the Apache Software
Foundation. It is expected that this Java.net, Jini Community
would build on that work and include projects which experiment,
advance, and augment it. For example, it would include tools,
containers, examples, advanced research, etc.

3. Relevance to Java developers
    ----------------------------
The Jini platform provides a very powerful set of tools for
creating service oriented architectures. It exploits the power
of Java's mobile code facilities, security features etc. Having
a Jini related community visible on java.net will only increase
the opportunity for developers to learn more about Jini and make
use of the related features of Java and Jini for SOA.

4. Name and java.net ID of the person(s) to act as community leader(s)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
"greggwon" will be the initial leader in this Community. It is
expected that several others from the Jini.org Community will be
added in the future as things progress.

5. The expected size of the proposed community when it launches in
    terms of projects and members.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Currently, there are several thousand on the jini related mailing
lists at jini.org. There are a few hundred projects, and perhaps
50 of those would be the initial seeding in this Community at Java.net.

6. Relationship to other communities
    ---------------------------------
The Jini platform has strong ties to the Java platform and provides
tools to help take advantage of some of the more powerful features
of the Java platform. So, this community would be related to many
communities on java.net.
