Creating a new Community on Java.net for jini.org projects etc.

The Java.net community approval process is in progress. We should know more by
the end of this week regarding our proposal for creating a Jini community on
Java.net. As this process progresses, and if we are accepted, I'd like to
encourage all project owners to start making plans for what you will do with
your jini.org projects. Some of the projects may not need to move to Java.net
if they are no longer relevent or useful to the community. However, some of the
dormant projects may have been "before their time", and need someone to pick
them up and breathe new life into them.

I'd like to strongly encourage everyone to spend time over the next week or so
trying to make a decision about your own projects.

One of the things that we need to come to grips with is the fact that the
historical parts of these project archives will disappear when jini.org is
decomissioned. If there are things of interest to the greater Jini community
there, I'd like to hear about those things on jini-users so that we, as a
community, can plan for these issues.

I know that some of this churn is making some people uncomfortable, because it
seems like extra work. But, I think that this is a great moment in the life of
this community to present a new message to the world about what Jini is and how
it can be utilized to solve all kinds of problems that others are spending time
reinventing solutions for.

One last thing. If the community is approved, I'll need some help to manage the
content of the site on java.net and with the approval of projects under the jini
community headline. I've got some people in mind who I think would really be an
asset to these activities. But, I'd like to find the people who have a real
desire. So, if you'd like to be a part of shaping how the Jini message is
presented to the world, drop me a note with more information about your
interests and how much time you think you can contribute.

I'm excited at the chance to present a new face and a new message about Jini!
