Jini.dev.java.net - full speed ahead!

We have completed all of the necessary setup and approvals for get the
jini.dev.java.net project setup as a java.net community.  This will provide a
place for jini.org projects to move to and be colocated.  It's not a requirement
for you to put any of your projects on java.net of course, but those who have no
preference for another place, are encouraged to use Java.net to help create a
cohesive view of activity in the Jini community.

At this time I'd like to ask again for anyone interested in promoting and
managing the jini related projects on java.net to let me know about your
desires.  I'd appreciate any help that I can have to look for new information
sources, blogs, RSS feeds etc pertaining to information that the Jini community
would be interested in.  Constructing good web pages is something that takes
time.  Anyone who can donate some energies in that direction would be
appreciated.  The more people we have contributing, the less each person will
have to do, most likely.

If you'd like to move a jini.org project to be a jini community project on
java.net, here are some pointers.

1.  Use the "request project" link visible on your "users" page to find the page
with information on requesting projects.  There are two pages of information
that you need to provide.  There is some duplication between pages, but this is
apparently a necessity.  If you skip page one, you'll have to come back and do
it again later.

2.  When filling out page 2, please select Jini in the list of communities (in
the pull down), and select the jini checkbox (and others that are appropriate)
to help group your project under appropriate areas of interest.

3.  You will have a choice of CVS or subversion SCM.  If you pick the wrong one,
you won't be able to switch to the other.

4.  Calum has created an overview of moving a cvs project on jini.org to using
subversion on java.net with eclipse.  This is visible at

Check with Calum about other scenarios, he might be able to help you if you
aren't using eclipse.  There is a new SVN plugin being developed for netbeans,
but it is still early release status, so nothing can really be documented for
using it right now.

Please remember that we all need to take care of our jini.org projects by the
end of this month.  If you are going to retire your project, you might post that
information here so that if there are silent users, we can find a new owner for
the project or otherwise be ready for the events that will follow.
