One of the questions that has come up during our Apache incubator
review and debate is on java package namespaces. We'd like to get
broad Jini Community discussion and feedback on this to help guide
how we should proceed with the incubator discussion.

The question is around the net.jini.* and com.sun.jini.* java package
namespaces in the source code (from the Jini Technology Starter Kit
and Service UI API) that will be contributed to the project. It looks
like
Apache naturally has projects use org.apache.<projectname> in their
Java package names.

For primarily compatibility reasons, we'd like to pursue keeping the
net.jini.* namespace with Apache. As for com.sun.jini.*, it's
understandable
from the Apache perspective to not want to include com.<any_company>.*
java package names, and so a change to org.apache.* would make sense --
however, this of course will cause an incompatibility (with
configuration
files, and in some cases with code).

What do you think about this?

Thanks for any and all input.

-Jim
