If you look at the history of all the projects which have been consumed into the apache goverance, they have tended to move over the the org.apachenamespace. So where we used to have net.jini.* we would have org.apache.jini.*, to keep the net.jini namespace feels wrong to me, and makes the jini libraries 'special' which I think is a bad thing.
