Bantam (http://bantam.dev.java.net) is a new project in the enterprise Java
community for lightweight remoting based on Jini. Bantam's distinctive
features:

(1) packages one or more Jini services in a WAR file
(2) provides key Jini features over a single HTTP/S connection:
    -exporting
    -codebase
    -unicast discovery
(3) provides annotations for simple authoring of new services
(4) runs existing Jini services through NonActivatableServiceDescriptor

Because Bantam services use HTTP and can be configured to run entirely on
well-known ports, they can be accessed through firewalls and across the
Internet. In this way they are similar to web services, but offer the
advantages of Jini technology.

We're in the process of setting up a live site with a few services (open
LUS, JavaSpace and a couple examples) at
http://bantam.skillcorp.com/bantam-examples. We'll post some "getting
started" instructions that show how to connect to the services very soon.
You can find out more about Bantam at http://bantam.dev.java.net.
