Thanks for the hints. Thankfully, the problem is solved. I found
out that the machine being used anew, people assumed default
set-ups, and the network address assigned to it, was different
from what was set in /etc/hosts. Once we cleared that, and
enabled the DHCP it seemed to have worked fine.

However, here's one question I would like to find the answer
to:

Let's assume that I have a laptop (RH Linux) which I connect to the
office network (LAN) when I am in the office. The Network
parameters are all set up properly so as to enable me to work
painlessly while in the office. I am using Blitz JavaSpaces, and I set
the CODEHOST to the machine's name in the network (in this
case 'cheetah') and off I go. Everything seems to work fine.

However, when I take the machine home to work in the evening - and
in my home, there is no LAN - I need to make Blitz work in that
environment too, with the minimal change to the environment
or configuration. In other words, I want to run my application
on Blitz in a 'standalone' mode.

Possible? If so, what exactly do I need to do so that switching
from office to home environment and vice versa is a breeze?

Perhaps, the answer is well-known. In that case, I apologise for
my lack of awareness.
