centralized logging for Rio and Jini services

I am making an attempt at centralized logging for a Rio application and
plain Jini services. Does anyone have some advice or experience in doing
this?

I have Eros running but I am confused by the Eros documentation on how
to get a Rio/Jini service to send logs to it. I tried the example on
https://eros.dev.java.net/nonav/setup.html. I am obviously missing
something. Does anyone have any tips for getting Eros and Rio to work
together?

An older version of our code built with JMS instead of Jini used the
SimpleSocketServer from log4j to perform centralized logging. But this
code uses log4j to log.

At the moment I have chainsaw configured to use the XMLSocketReceiver
and the UtilLoggingXMLDecoder to collect logs centrally.

I know I will miss out on the dynamic behavior of Rio and Jini but I may
just write a simple ServerSocket program to get the logs from
java.util.logging.SocketHandler. But perhaps this is stupid and there is
an easy, brute force way to do this using Jini.
