Bonjour requires the installation of a native daemon which could be done via an installer. Of course, on a Mac you'd have this out of the box which I suspect is half the reason people like Bonjour, it's perceived to require no effort basically cos a Mac has it already - be interesting to see how it's viewed on other platforms perhaps? Then it comes down to whether or not Bonjour can help with the usual bootstrap suspects and I'm undecided on that. I'm certainly curious to see if we can use this ready-made infrastructure to replace some bits of Jini in some simplifying fashion. If nothing else Jini might be more acceptable if it's deemed to run on top of some "web standards" like DNS. However I'm not yet convinced that ultimately it'll all still come down to having a "properly configured network" (like Linux distro's not doing bad things in /etc/hosts files). Answering questions like the above will require some serious study/thought....
