Yes, you can just use JERI.  You should consider JERI to be RMI 2.0.  All you need to understand is the use of Exporter
and ProxyPreparer to get started.  If you want to take advantage of the more complete security features in JERI, then
you'll need to look at some of the tutorials in the "Hello World" example on configuring an Exporter that utilizes
constraints supported by a particular invocation layer factory implementation.  Also, the use of ConfigurationFile input
files for setting up your Exporter and other pieces makes it really easy to have a simple configuration for testing and
a complete configuration for production.  In particular, the delays associated with advanced key generation, can make
testing cycles slower than necessary if you use that level of security.
