It seems that rebind/bind is not allowed for non-local "clients" ... and
is there any work-around or alternative?

Checked sun.rmi.registry.RegistryImpl ... security.policy is not used ..
and the whole thing doesn't seem to be configurable.

Also curious, isn't this supposed to be the firewall's job?

I am looking at RMI multicast, in which one (or several) centralized
naming server is used to support mulitple replicated jrmp servers.
