How Unix was developed by using 'C' ?!!

Hai Guys,

I am having one silly doubt and not specifically to Java.

U Know, Most of the codes for the UNIX OS was written in 'C'. And, C and
UNIX was developed simultaneously.
What my doubt is, Every language compilers resides on the OS. Then How it is
possible to develop a OS by using language?

Please clear my doubt.
