Web browser does not show Exception information?

Hi, I'm working on a Struts application using Tomcat 5.5.4. After adding a filter to the app, printStackTrace() only outputs to the console. Without the filter, both web browser and the console could show the Exception information. Will a filter prevent Exception being shown in browser?
