I really appreciate your help in this matter. =

So, what you are saying is that there are 2 levels of security. One is re=
lated
to software and the other is related to the hardware or wireless hardware=
=2E is
that correct. It is easier to capture and break wireless signals and code=
 than
others. is that correct?
the software security is more robust.

let me know

When looking at a distributed application over a wireless network, there
are several communication layers involved: the network layers and the
application layers.

The most common implementations of wireless network layers (such as GSM
cellular teleophony or Wireless networking 802.11x) provide their
own security mechanisms.
This is completely seperate from the application layer security
("end-to-end") that an application still has to provide.

To implement end-to-end security (authentication, encrypted sockets,
etc), Java PROVIDES SECURITY MECHANISMS. Look for the java.security
packages, which are available for desktop Java (J2SE), as well as some
configurations for embedded Java (J2ME:CDC:Foundation Profile).
If you are interested in even smaller embedded devices (cell phones),
you need to look into J2ME:CLDC:Mobile Information Device Profile
(version 2); all of them can be found on the java.sun.com pages: either
under products and documentation or by looking for the corresponding JSRs=

Of course, all those security packages just help you to implement
security, it is still up to the designer of the application to architect
it to be secure in the first place.
