No Image - Hard Error (make soft)

Is there a way to make Tapestry "less obsessed" with missing assets
(images). Crashing the whole page because an image is temporarily
unavailable seems rather harsh. Is there a way for it to just show an empty
rectangle or use the "alt" tag?
