questions about GUI enhanced mode

I really like the GUI enabled mode, but for some reason, it does not 
recognize some of the menus for some of our applications, perhaps 
because the menu screens are formatted slightly different from the 
"standard" IBM menus.  For example, some of our screens have the menu 
option entry field on say line 4, and the actual menu choices are in a 
subfile starting on line 5 ...

Also, some of our screens have the function keys defined at the bottom 
as "F3=Exit F4=Prompt F12=Cancel" (one space between each entry) versus 
"F3=Exit  F4=Prompt  F12=Cancel" (two spaces between each entry) and in 
this case, it does not create a button for each function key, but only 
one big button for the whole line, which only gives F3.

Does anyone know how to "fix" this? Or, can anyone suggest where to look 
in the (open source) code for where I might try to have a look?
