Just have a look at SVN:/tn5250j-tab-branch/src/org/tn5250j/Gui5250Frame.java to see, that 'selectedIndex' and 'count' are already gone ;-) This a branch, that requires Java 1.6 at a minimum version, where I've reworked the tab-management.
