The two reports are very incosistent.  In the first you were using Debian and
getting an NPE during the execution of a program.

In the second, you were using Gentoo, and the JVM could not even bootstrap,
failing very, very early, long before executing any bytecode of a program.

If your current system is Gentoo, can you make sure you have used David's
sablevm packages for gentoo?  I am not a Gentoonian, so maybe my quesiton
is silly, but make sure you don't have ANY CFLAGS set before compiling
sablevm, OR configure it with --with-threading=direct (but it will be
~15% slower than the default "inlined").
