I can confirm that behaviour of 1.1.6-6 in Debian is the same as current 1.1.7-pre. I wonder whether it worked in any previous version. I won't be able to really look into that before wednesday evening (believe me, I wish I could do that earlier), so don't wait for me and go ahead and fix it :) I guess this bug is "good enough" to wait with releasing 1.1.7.
