Agree in that installing Darwinports for jikes too much.

BTW, what about dlopen - dlcompat, ltdl things...  Does OS X 10.3
installs that by default now?  With 10.2 I originally got them via Fink.
These are tricky to install...  When I attempted to install GNU libtool,
I ran into trouble in that I did the big mistake of overwriting Apple's
libtool...

Gentoo does it the same way as you did, with the rpm tarball, so it
should be okay.

I requested a long time ago packages for libffi and sablevm in Fink.
I guess we would need someone with both an interest in Fink and SableVM to
send to the Fink devs a package.

I look some time ago at Gentoo MacOS for building SableVM but Gentoo
MacOS is very experimental and I had to manually installed several
things.  Although Gentoo MacOS is for the expert users, what is
interesting on that side is that the same build scripts are used on both
Gentoo Linux and Gentoo MacOS.  So when Gentoo MacOS will be more in a
stable state, when version x.y.z comes out on Gentoo Linux, it will be
available on Gentoo MacOS.
