POSIX should make porting relatively simple.  Can gcc target eCos?  That
would make for an even simpler port.

The idea looks nice, if you're willing to work on it.

The architecture being i386, I see no big road block ahead.

Just ask for help, when you need it.  Also, it would be nice if you
contributed back your port, when it's done. :-)
