Hmmm...  I really don't see the problem.

Could you:

$ su
$ apt-get install subversion
$ exit
$ svn co svn://svn.sablevm.org/sablevm/tags/sablevm-1.1.9 sablevm
$ cd sablevm
$ ./autogen.sh
$ ./configure --prefix=$HOME/work
$ make install
