Hi all,
I tried the the sdk package on Mac OS X and ran into a couple of
problems.

These were on OS X 10.3.9 (Panther).

First is that darwin_closure.S in libffi broke ...
/bin/sh ./libtool --mode=compile gcc -I.
-I../.././../sablevm/src/libffi/include -Iinclude
-I../.././../sablevm/src/libffi/src -g -O2 -c -o
src/powerpc/darwin_closure.lo src/powerpc/darwin_closure.S
  gcc -I. -I../.././../sablevm/src/libffi/include -Iinclude
-I../.././../sablevm/src/libffi/src -g -O2 -c
src/powerpc/darwin_closure.S -fno-common -DPIC -o
src/powerpc/.libs/darwin_closure.o
darwin_closure.S:249:unknown section attribute: live_support

This has changed since the 3325 version, which worked fine. Replacing
this file with the version from 3325 allowed it to build.

Second is minor - the test programs in popt failed to build. The
message you get is ...
/bin/sh ./libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -Wall -g -O2 -o test1
-all-static test1.o libpopt_convenience.la
gcc -Wall -g -O2 -o test1 -static test1.o ./.libs/libpopt_convenience.a
ld: can't locate file for: -lcrt0.o

The problem is the "-all-static" and removing it allows the tests to
build. There's some special stuff for doing full-static builds on OS X
and I presently forget exactly what it is, but I don't think that's
required here. On OS X, full-static builds are usually only for
security-sensitive things which ship with the OS and will be kept in
sync with it.

I'm not sure how to configure sdk with "--disable-gtk-peer" which is
what we normally use, so I thought that I'd get those items from fink.
That's ongoing right now, but I hit two issues with it (not sablevm)

First is that one of the dependencies has a file whose checksum is
broken. This was the download ...
curl -f -L -O http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.1.2/docbkx412.zip
I've tried from several mirrors and they're all the same.

Second is that you have to install unstable and from source, as the
installable binary for gtk2 is only version 2.2.4 and 2.4 or later is
required. This is a lengthy process (about an hour so far on a dual G5)
including the various dependencies. I'll update on how this goes.

Cheers.....Peter
