I wasn't trying to imply that GCC was necessarily maintaining a complete copy of the class library, but that they are (I guess, see below) maintaining at least a part of it. I would be surprised if GCC doesn't maintain anymore their own version of vm/reference code... Weren't all references to native code, in Classpath, moved into "VMxxx.java" classes, without distinction between "native library" and "native vm" code (!) to accommodate environments such as GCC? Are you implying that GCC now uses classpath's JNI native code instead of their own CNI version? If yes, then I'll have learned something new today. :-) Really, I do not know the exact answer to your question; you probably do know more than me. I do not follow the development of GCC. I work on SableVM. I was simply stating obvious facts (not about GCC, but about the necessity to adapt some of the class library code surrounding the VM interface for each VM). Etienne -- Etienne M.
