Merge feature proposal

HI all, 

It seems that currently our merge feature is kind of
suboptimal. ( i.e it does not work properly except
some
places like ejb plugin ), and where it works it
requires stylesheet transformations which is kind of
annoying.
WHat about following:
  - give all plugins property mergeDir ( would not
hurt when not necessary ) 
  - provide custome jelly tag / velocity directive to
do just merge if file is available

This would save a lot of work in templates.

Any volunteers? Objections? ;)
