XDoclet 1.2.3 (or, more accurately, the version of xjavadoc included in that distribution) doesn't support the newer 1.5 syntax constructs, including attributes. There is a patched version of xjavadoc in JIRA issue XJD-41 that allows the processing of files that use 1.5-specific syntax.
