Hibernatedoclet newb w/build problem

I have inherited a build process with the following Ant tasks:

In the Xdoclet/templates directory is the further directory structure
xdoclet\modules\hibernate\resources with the following four files:
 
hibernate-joined-subclass.xdt
hibernate-properties.xdt
hibernate-subclass.xdt
hibernate.xdt
 
So what I gather from this is that we have customized versions of the
default hibernate templates that we are using by adding them to the
front of the classpath. The problem comes in that I am trying to convert
this process to Maven using the xdoclet-maven-plugin and there doesn't
seem to be a way to manipulate the classpath to front-load our
templates. So my questions are:
 
1. Is there another way to make use of these templates? I've been toying
with the <template> element, but can't get it to work.
 
2. Is there a better way to go about this?
