there are ant tasks which allow you to use dependency
mechanism of maven ( check http://maven.apache.org/ )

as for compatibility with XD 1 - I'm not sure, I do
not work with XD1  for a long time and my daily work
does
not require EJB stuff. I only apply patches proveded
by contributors. 

This is open source - if something is not there, 
do it yourself and share with community.
