well, XD2 is fully optional and of production quality.

current plugins version is 1.0.4-SNAPSHOT so fresh
files are in  maven repo on codehaus.  You can build
own distribution though. 

I intend to push 1.0.4 soon, so if you like to submit
your patches to XD2 it is about time.
